Mural made out of tape on glass

When I was allotted three panels of glass as a space to show my work as a graduating senior from MICA, I decided to make a whole new piece that would compliment the space rather then show work I have already done during the school year. I decided to make a mural made out of black masking tape of an underground animal world. I decided to rip off Brian Rea and Nicolas Bleckman for the idea of making a mural out of tape. I had helped them with a tape mural before and knew how much fun it would be to make.</description>

Toys along with a newsprint tabloid designed to raise awarness for a rare disease.

Neurofibromatosis is a incurable disease in which tumors can grow on your skin as well as inside your body. It is also called "the most common rare disease." Often, those afflicted with Neurofibromatosis don't live within society, for they are unable to bear the public's incomprehension of the disease; they are unable to bear our stares. Attempting to illuminate the public's unfamiliarity with the disease, I made tumors into toys, which contained Neurofibromatosis facts on their tags. Along with the toys, I created and published newsprints to showcase individuals affected by the disease. Andrew Shea and members of the Design Coalition class collaborated with me.</description>

Although the direction the Times chose for the article "All Purpose Pronoun" was not my favorite, there is something to be said about Swiss army knives making a good metaphor. I designed this illustration under the direction of Paul Sahre and Peter Ahlberg when I was an intern at The Office of Paul Sahre.</description>

"Corrections" is a science journal I created. (I'm still interested in science even though I'm a graphic designer and not a scientist.) Most American science journals are poorly designed and even uninviting. I was happy to illustrate the articles to further explain them as well.</description>

Cover re-design

When assigned to redesign the cover for the Baltimore Sun, I was very excited (and a little nervous). Newspapers are not doing well and the Sun is no exception. While working on my design, I considered the reason why newspapers continually have paying customers, even while the majority of their content can be found freely online: Not only are newspapers tactile, but their design and content also indicate the reader's identity. In my design, the front page does not include any images, allowing the reader to enjoy the content of each article without interruption or distraction. Images would be shown on each article's subsequent page.</description>

Synopsis:

In the 1981 masterpiece, alfabet, Inger Christensen used the alphabet (from a [“apricots”] to n [“nights”]) along with the Fibonacci mathematical sequence in which the next number is the sum of the two previous ones (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34…). As she explained: “The numerical ratios exist in nature: the way a leek wraps around itself from the inside, and the head of a snowflower, are both based on this series.”

Due to the constraints Christensen gave herself to write her poems, I gave myself similar constraints to make the cover. I used a pattern taken from the fibonacci sequence to direct my design and typographic placement. </description>

Environmental Design Project 

The mission of the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is to maximize energy efficiency while promoting economic development, reducing reliance on foreign energy supplies, and improving the environment. After our MEA poster campaign, the Center for Design Practice received a grant to create a physical, traveling space which provides information on energy efficiency to the public.</description>

To show how chefs work with tools from the hardware store, it was pretty easy to find &#38; photograph the appropriate saw. What wasn't easy was getting "un-sliced, sliced bread." In case you are wondering what that is, imagine an unsliced loaf of white bread (like Wonder Bread). None of the bakeries in Manhattan had what we were looking for, nor did they understand why we would ever need the loaf to not be sliced. We ended up hot-gluing a loaf of bread we got from Trader Joe's, then Photoshopping it to look like the saw was cutting it. This journey was taken with Paul Sahre and Grant Gold (whose hand we used in the picture).</description>
